South Korean rapper jail for smoking marijuana

South Korean Rapper Choi Seung-Hyun popularly known as T.O.P has received 10-months suspended jail sentence for smoking marijuana last year, weeks after he was hospitalized for drugs overdose.

The singer accept  the charges and admitted in court that he has smoke marijuana on four occasions in his home in Seoul October last year.

"As Choi has admitted to the charges, he is found guilty, " The Seoul judge said. 

The judge further said that crimes related to drugs require serious punishment because they have negative effect on the society at large.

The rapper told reporters that he "truly regretted causing trouble," and also apologized to his fans around the world.

Both recreational and medical use of marijuana is illeegal in South Korea and smoking the substance is a crime that attract severe punishment which involes up to five years in prison or 50 million won (US$44,500) fine.
