Legendary singer Don Williams dies at the age of 78

Legendary singer and songwriter Don Williams popularly known for his 1981 hit song "I Believe in You" has passed away at the age of 78.

The legendary Nashville songwriter Don Williams died in his home in Alabama after a short illness.

His publicist confirmed on Friday that the legend Don Williams who was known as "the Gentle Giant" because of his easy going temperament, died after a brief illness.

Williams was inducted into the country Music Hall of Fame in 2010 before he later announce his retirement in 2015.

Don Williams is known for delivering gentle voice and rich voice in a storytelling style of music which is rare nowadays.

The legeendary Willimas spent more of his time on his farm west of Nashville, he did few media interviews and toured sparingly.

He started his career as a musician in Portland a city he relocated to from his native Texas where he was born.

Williams moved to Nashville in the late 60s and wrote songs for some of the country's biggest names in the music industry.
